Aries Cheung studied design and illustration at the Hong Kong Polytechnics University, and graduated in Visual Arts at York University. He has worked as a visual artist, graphic designer and art director for advertising for many years.

Cheung is now an independent, practicing visual artist and teacher. His interests include painting, drawing, digital imaging and photo-based, mixed media work. He has exhibited at galleries locally and abroad. He has been on the jury and programming committees for artist-run galleries in Toronto, such as A Space Gallery. He has received Ontario Arts Council Artist’s Grant and has been a Toronto Arts Council Artist’s Grant Jury Member.

Cheung’s works often deal with racial identity and sexuality, using portraits, figures, or the human body as the basis for contention. He often uses personal issues as references to explore politics that affect his communities. Cheung often collaborates with dance and theatre companies on multi-media projects. In 2008, he produced mutli-screen video projections as well as performed as a dancer and actor for the integrated mutli-media theatre, Salt Fish Girl 1 - Hope & Forgetfulness. In 2010, he created video projections and installations for Hiding Words (For You), the second multi-disciplinary theatre production with the collective, Eventual Ashes.Cheung has been facilitating and coordinating community arts projects for various organizations, such as Asian Community AIDS Services. He is now working on short and feature film projects.
2010: '''Hiding Words for You'''. Taking on the theme of Nushu, a secret language developed by women in ancient China, Hiding Words for You is a multi-media theatre production which tells the story of how several women from different centuries reconnect across time and space.

2008: '''Salt Fish Girl 1: Hope & Forgetfulness''', a theatre adaptation of the Canadian novel Salt Fish Girl by Larissa Lai.

2008: '''Plant Series'''. While subtly addressing environmental issues, Plant Series' central theme remains that of the hybrid between human and plant in all its emotional and power complexities. Plant Series also speaks of the beauty, hope, and resilience to surreal and grotesque creatures.
Jin Me Yoon is a vital member of the Vancouver art community as well as an active participant in international art discourse, for the past two decades her work has contributed to ongoing discussions of place and identity. Well-known earlier photographic works, such as Souvenirs of the Self (1991), use subtle humour and irony to tackle head on the narrative foundations of Nation and the very terms of inclusion as to who belongs “naturally” to these iconic Canadian touristic landscapes.

Along with many other artists in the 1980s and early 1990s, Jin-me Yoon’s work has critically foregrounded – through formal and conceptual means – the processes of racialization as well as sexual difference to subvert stereotypes and dominant discourses. Jin-me Yoon’s more recent video work explores the interrelationship between bodies, cities and history in an accelerated globalized era. In The dreaming collective knows no history (U.S. Embassy to Japanese Embassy, Seoul), 2006, she explores the city of her birth by formally tipping the vertical axis of the city and humans onto a horizontal plane. Rife with historical and contemporary references and associations – the movement of peoples, information and goods – the smooth flow of progress and power as well as the frantic pace of production and consumption are interrupted.

Jin-me Yoon has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally. She lives and works in Vancouver, teaching at the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University. Jin-me Yoon is represented by the Catriona Jeffries Gallery.
Hyun Jou Lee was born on October 6th 1965, in Korea. At age seven, she left her childhood home to attend school in Seoul. She went on to study at the Women’s University in Seoul, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts. Her thirst for discovery led her to Montreal in 1994, where she studied at the Saidye Bronfman Center. She started exhibiting locally, and has since been showing work in galleries in Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Jou Lee has a symbiotic relationship with her artwork. She looks for guidance from the
canvas, often surprised by the finished result. She begins by applying a thick gesso, to
create relief and give dimension to the piece. Jou Lee experiments with many mediums,
using principally oil and encaustic. Her colour palette is extremely broad; ranging from
the very organic to the brightest colours of spring: the difference depends on the story
the artist is trying to tell.

== Exhibitions ==

The following are some of Hyun Jou Lee's most recent solo exhibitions, more can be found at her webpage.

2011: Catalogue launch & Retrospective exhibition at the Espace Galerie Dimension Plus in Montreal, Québec.

2010: Edmund Craig Gallery in Texas, United States.

2008: Galerie Robert Senneville in Sherbrooke, Canada as well as at the Edmund Craig Gallery in Texas, United States.

2007: The Village Gallery in Mississauga, Ontario.

Hyun Jou Lee has also participated in group exhibitions, such as at the Bering & James in Houston, Texas in 2005 and at both the Art Corée 2004, L’Agora de la Danse in Montreal and the Galerie Estampe Plus in Quebec -among other exhibitions.
Started in 1973, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver (CCC) is a non-profit, charitable organisation dedicated to the promotion and awareness of Chinese culture.

Following a Wong's Benevolent Association banquet in 1972 when representatives of the three levels of government all pledged to support a community centre in Chinatown. The following year, the CCC was founded thanks to the support of the government, 53 community organisations, and countless enthusiastic volunteers. A year after that, the CCC officially registered with the provincial and federal governments as a non-profit and charitable organisation. A entire city block was designated in Vancouver's Chinatown and during the early 1980s, administrative, educational, and commercial buildings were built, and other such buildings include the Dr. David Lam Multipurpose Hall and the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. The CCC also have their Museum & Archives -with both permanent and ongoing exhibits, a library, branch office, and open theatre- which is now open to the public.

== Mission Statement ==

- To promote understanding and friendship between the Chinese community and other cultural groups in Canada.

- To interpret and communicate Chinese culture and to facilitate exchange with other cultural groups and with the community at large.

- To promote and foster Chinese culture and art within the Chinese community and with other cultural groups.

- To help Chinese immigrants adjust to the culture, heritage, and lifestyle in Canada.

- To build and maintain cultural facilities for the purpose of achieving these aims and objectives.
The CCC has two phases, totaling 23,000 square-feet. Phase I functions primarily as creative and supportive centre with such facilities as an art gallery, resource centre, reading room, boardroom, studios, and classrooms. Whereas Phases II includes a large theatre and an even larger great hall for sports and other recreational activities, conventions, trade shows, and banquets. Between these two buildings, the CCC is the largest Chinese cultural centre in North America.
Komachi Montreal (こまち モンレアル) is a Montreal-based Japanese folk dance group founded by Kayo Yasuhara in 2007. The group specializes in Bon or Bon Odori dancing, an annual Buddhist ritual meant to celebrate and honour the dead. This type of dance is also performed during summer festivals, also known as Matsuri. Komachi Montreal's specific dance style is that of Minyō which embraces the joy of dancing, celebration and finds the courage to enjoy and live life. This is also that style that has been orally transmitted throughout generations in Yasuhara's native region, however each region in Japan boasts their own interpretations and dancing styles and Komachi Montreal also hopes to showcase these other dances to expose their audiences to the full colour of Japan folk dance culture.

While Komachi Montreal originally started as a small troupe named Yume Mirai, they rose to prominence following the earthquake in the Tohoku region in Japan in 2011. Since then they have participated in many charitable events in a show of solidarity for their people in Japan and show hope for a brighter future for everyone affected by the disaster.
Situated in the heart of Vancouver's downtown Eastside, Centre A is a gallery that houses contemporary Asian art in the hopes of engaging, educating, and stimulating critical thought and debate. Established in 1999, Centre A has bosted the work of over 300 artists from Canada and abroad, as well as having produced over 80 original projects.
== Current Exhibition ==

- '''Fire/Fire''' by Marina Roy and Abbas Akhavan and is on exhibition from June 2 to August 4, 2012. "Fire/Fire calls out like a warning, of obvious danger, perhaps too late. The title derived from the Great Fire of Meireki, which destroyed more than half of the Japanese capital city of Edo, leading to the redistribution of power and the establishment of the Edo period that gave birth to the tradition of Ukiyo-e prints in Japan. It also refers to the Great Vancouver Fire of 1886, which razed most of the newly incorporated city, and more recently the building fires that expelled artists from their studios, paving the way for new real estate and condo development. Fires are testament to our inability to control nature."
The B.C. Chinese Music Association (BCCMA) was formed in 1995 by enthusiastic Chinese music lovers who wished to promote Chinese music within our multicultural society. It provides a platform for Chinese music lovers and promotes Chinese music in the wider community. Its aim is to share Chinese musical culture with others to increase Canada's understanding of Chinese culture through music.

The BCCMA also has multiple divisions within its ranks, such as the B.C. Chinese Orchestra (BCCO) which regularly performs for cultural and festival events, as well as charities. There are also the B.C. Chinese Music Ensemble (BCCME) which caters to virtuosos and the B.C. Youth Chinese Orchestra (BCYCO) which seeks to train young musicians.

Beyond artistic or community events, the BCCMA also organizes lectures, master classes, concerts and exhibitions. It has helped coordinate such events as the Chinese Music Ethnic Classes competition at the Vancouver Kiwanis Festival since 2001 and collaborated with the Central Conservatory of Music for the Overseas Chinese Instruments Grade Examination in 2006.
