Keep in mind the site will be under constant development. Wikis require a bit of learning to get started, but with a bit of dedication, you can take part by editing pages, adding categories, and so on here and on other wikis. We recommend you create an account before editing, then you will only have to do this process once. We use a 'human verification process' to block spam.

There are three ways to add pages. The first two involve forms, the third is standard wiki pages. Remember when adding pages, every page must have a unique name. So don't call your event "Dance party," call it "Central Calgary Dance Party Spring 2012." If you see someone else's data on a form you're editing, start again with a unique name.

Add an entry

This could be an artist, group, organization or anything else Asian Canadian.

  1. Create a Wikipedia account and log into your account. Logging in will allow you to upload files to the wiki.
  2. Upload a profile image. Using the "upload file" button beside the "Image" box.
  3. Choose your file, and copy the name of the file. Insert this file name into the "Image" box.
  4. Insert a webpage in the "Home page" box.
  5. Insert the [City][,][Province] into "Location" box. Use abbreviations or the full name of the province. For example: Kelowna, B.C.
  6. Choose the category for your entry.
  7. Choose a "Type", either group or individual.
  8. Insert "Aspects" if there are specific key words to describe the entry. For example: "prominent"
  9. Fill in the "Free text" box. This should include, in order:
    1. A first sentence which summarizes who or what the entry is.
    2. Description of the entry
    3. Citation using the code:

Copying from Wikipedia:

This article based on content from http://www.wikipedia.org. Original version: URL of version you copied

Copying from other sites:

This article based on content from URL of site. Original version: URL of version you copied

  1. Ignore the "Summary" box.
  2. Upload any additional media and format according to the guides. Add social media with a MediaWiki Widget
  3. Update as necessary by logging in and clicking "edit"

Editing content

Wikipedia has multiple "cheatsheets" to make formatting easier. Here are a few:

  1. formatting
    1. ":" = indent
"" and "" around the text = bold font
"==" and "==" = for titles and subtitles
  2. Wikipedia A longer, more complicated how-to edit a page

ZoneAlarm problems

There is a Zone Alarm (Antivirus&Firewall) window that pops up saying that the website is suspicious, I tried to copy/paste it but didn't work. The alert also says to avoid entering sensitive data. The pop up window does not detail anything else but it does have an icon that we can click on to stop the warning, if we trust the site is safe. There are no other details from Zone Alarm saying why the site is suspicious.

— Contacted Zone Alarm support staff June 2, 2010. Response — "I will go ahead and send that site to our development group, I was able to get there without any issues," ticket ID LTK164019794485X.
