Free text: Harry Bains is the current MLA for Surrey-Newton in the Canadian province of British Columbia. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly in the 2005 election as a member of the British Columbia New Democratic Party. Bains has been active in Surrey for many years. He has experience in education due to his many years of service on the Kwantlen University College Board of Governors from 1993 and 1999. He has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Bains was an elected officer of Steelworkers-IWA Canada local 2171 for over fifteen years. He served most recently as vice president of his local chapter, in which he led negotiations and helped in bargaining efforts.
